Disposal
Businesses in Tompkins County have the option of bringing garbage to the Recycling and Solid Waste Center (RSWC) or contracting with a private waste hauler.
Recycling and Solid Waste Center
A permit is required to bring all waste, except recyclables, to the RSWC. Permits can be obtained at the Solid Waste Management Division Office during office hours. A current Tompkins County vehicle registration must be presented when applying for a permit. For vehicles not registered in Tompkins County, proof of County residency must be provided. Permit applications can also be processed through the mail. Please call for more information.
The cost of a commercial permit is $20 for the first vehicle and $10 for each additional vehicle.
Commercial Permit Holders may pay via cash, check, or pre-approved charge account. Rates and fees are the same for businesses as they are for residents.

PLEASE NOTE: For trash collection and trash tag information, residents in the Village of Dryden and the Village of Trumansburg should contact their village directly. The Village of Dryden can be reached at 844-8122 and the Village of Trumansburg can be reached at 387-6501.
*These types of haulers must sell trash tags to their customers if picking up container program solid waste.
CONTAINER PROGRAM SOLID WASTE -- Any solid waste generated or originated on residential property and any solid waste generated or originated on commercial property that is placed at the curbside for collection. Container program solid waste shall not include hazardous waste under any applicable law or regulation, or construction or demolition debris.
2010 Disposal Fees and Charges
Punch Cards
Solid Waste Disposal Punch Cards are available to users for $12.00 each. All cards come with 5 punches, with a fee of 1 punch ($2.40) per 35-pound garbage bag/can, or 35-pound bag/can of yard waste, or rimless car tire.
Coupons
Category 1 - Sedan vehicles (2 & 4 door) need one $8 coupon. Can be used for one load of garbage or Yard Waste.
Category 2 - Larger capacity vehicles (station wagon, SUV, minvan) need one $12 coupon. Can be used for one load of garbage or Yard Waste.
Coupons are available for purchase at the Solid Waste Management Division office during regular business hours. Coupons and punch cards are also available at Wegmans customer service desk.
All other vehicles are charged based on the 3-tiered system as follows (i.e. pickups, full sized van, dump trucks, etc.):
