Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Finger Lakes Buy Green Information at Tompkins Trust Company
The Tompkins County Solid Waste Management Division will have a display for it's HHW and Finger Lakes Buy Green programs at Tompkins Trust Company from Friday, July 2 to Friday, July 30.
Stop by to learn how to properly dispose of HHW and how to avoid hazardous waste in the first place by purchasing green products in the Finger Lakes region.

Teens at SewGreen 2010 Summer Youth Program

SewGreen runs a six-week Summer Youth Program for teens. The program combines learning and job skills training, using sewing and apparel design as a primary focus. Teens may participate as paid workers through local youth job programs or they may apply directly to SewGreen for a free apprenticeship. Boys are welcome, too. For new and returning students. Supervised but free-form time to pursue original sewing projects and explore individual creativity. Previous sewing experience requested. Limited to 8 students. $40 for one day; $75 for two days; $110 for all three. Ask about the exact dates. Pre-registration is required. Scholarships for youth are available. Three-Day Beginners’ Sewing Series

For new, or repeating students who want to get more practice. Kids learn to sew with a sewing machine and make easy projects, including a drawstring backpack, pillow, stuffed animal, and small quilt. Compost with Confidence

Compost Demonstration Site, Ithaca Community Gardens (near the Farmers’ Market)
Master Composter volunteers will provide information and give hands-on demonstrations to help you set up and manage a composting system in any setting. Each class will cover the basics of composting to teach you how to manage a successful system with minimal effort. Visit this workshop to learn about Troubleshooting (your compost). Knowledgeable composting instructors will be happy to answer all of your questions and free informational fact sheets will be available. Registration not required - just show up!
