Improperly Sorted Recycling Leads to Missed Collection
The Tompkins County Solid Waste Management Division has observed an increased volume of improperly sorted recyclables placed at the curbside for collection. Improperly prepared recyclables or unacceptable materials will be left in the bin with a "Whoops" note explaining why. Properly sorted material will be collected on the following scheduled pick-up day.
Residents are reminded to properly sort recyclables by placing mixed food and beverage containers in a separate bin from paper. Material should not be placed in plastic bags.
For information on how to properly sort curbside recyclable, please refer to the 2010 Recycling Guidelines or visit: www.recycletompkins.org.
